Sober living for women in Brewer

The best resources are usually the ones that nobody tells you about. If you’re a woman in recovery, you should know about Holyoke Haven for Women. It’s one of the greatest investments made in our community in years and it is currently accepting new applicants.

Holyoke is a sober living home. They provide a safe and supportive environment for folks who are early in recovery. The rent is easily affordable for anyone who is employed.

I’m particularly fond of this program because it is part of the Oxford Home network, which means it is self governed. There are no professionals running the home. Folks who have common goals and dreams live as roommates. If a person maintains abstinence, their chances of success in such an arrangement are excellent.

The Bangor Area Recovery Network achieved the development and opening of Holyoke Haven. This is a stellar example of people in recovery and their allies supporting people in recovery. It fills a vital and pragmatic need. It’s remarkable how much support the City of Brewer and specifically, it’s Mayor Beverly Uhlenhake have supported, valued, and welcomed Holyoke Haven as an important addition to the community.

Jobs, housing, transportation, and health care are all basic life needs. The more we create opportunities for people in recovery to meet these needs, the more our communities flourish. Holyoke is a self sustaining program. It is not publicly funded.

I am consistently blown away by the strong work ethics I see amongst people in recovery. We’re not looking for charity. We’re looking for opportunities.
